The first Ghostbusters was released in 1984, with a sequel that follow about five years later. Soon, you’ll be able to watch the third installment as the team is reunited.

So the first Ghostbusters did extremely well in the market and with audiences. It is about three unemployed friends who are interested in the paranormal. Eventually, they’re able to create a thriving business off of catching ghosts and placing them in their containment unit. Only problem, a regulator thinks that the business they are running is a scam and wants them shut down. His main target is the containment unit; since he believes it’s a scam, there won’t be a problem with ghosts if he turns it off. Wrong!

Overall, it’s a great film. A lot of people are already getting word that Ghostbusters 3 will be out soon – hopefully if follow the same recipe as the previous films.

Platoon is an awesome 1986 Oliver Stone film that won four Oscars. The film, for those still out there that haven’t seen it — follows a small infantry platoon during the Vietnam War. It shows the daily life and routine, while also showing each individual mans struggle to keep their own sanity, deal with the hardships, and survive long enough to get back home.

The film has an all star cast. Most of the young faces in the film were just beginning their careers in Hollywood when they were cast for this film.

For those you that haven’t seen it — if you don’t like war movies, then this is not for you, but if you do like war movies and haven’t seen it, you can still rent it and watch it. It’s a really great film!

Most people have probably forgotten about the 1984 film, Iceman. I only recently rediscovered the film on Netflix. The film is really good and keep our interest the whole time.

The film is about an arctic exploration discovery of a man trapped inside a glacier for over 40,000 years. Upon melting the ice and infusing him with new blood, to their surprise, he comes back to life.

With scientist now having revived him, they are now willing to kill him in order to learn more about him. One of the teams scientist is the only thing standing between the Iceman and the scientists.

Not too much needs to be said about this film and the ones that followed. Back to the Future opened up the imagination for generation of children and adults alike. The film stars Michael J Fox and Christopher LLoyd. Lloyd is a quirky scientist with a life time of failed experiments – that is until, he invented a time machine – out of a delorean.

The film is very entertaining, even 25 years after its making. The sequels to follow are also great films. For about $13.00 you can buy all three films at Target. That’s a really good deal.

The Shining is titled as such for it is what the characters (Jack and Danny Torrance) dubbed their supernatural visions of past and future horrific events. The movie revolves around a regular person named Jack Torrance who has evolved into a madman (ably played by Jack Nicholson). The movie was directed (and written for movies) by the late great Stanley Kubrick.

Kubrick is really a perfect director, I should say. He made the 70-year-old Scatman Crothers shoot one scene for a whopping 120 times. And he also demanded the same number of shots on Shelley Duvall (who played Wendy Torrannce) in a particular scene.

One funny trivia from IMDB:

Stephen King tried to talk Stanley Kubrick out of casting Jack Nicholson in the lead suggesting, instead, either ‘Michael Moriarty’ or Jon Voight. King had felt that watching either of these normal-looking men gradually descend into madness, would have immensely improved the dramatic thrust of the storyline. Indeed, many fans of the book agreed with King, adding that Nicholson appeared fairly crazy from the very start, thus there was little or no surprise when Jack ultimately went totally overboard.

The Running Man is a premonition of two things. First, it is about a reality show, long before reality shows were a fad. The movie is all about a game show called The Running Man where convicts get a chance to regain their freedom if they outwit their pursuing killers in the TV show. That may sound barbaric enough but this is how Stephen King pictures the futuristic society as it is in his book which is the adapted basis of the movie. The other premonition the movie has pointed out to us? There was a line in which star Arnold Schwarzenegger delivered in the movie and it went like this – “I’m not into politics. I’m into survival.” Look at where he is now.

TRIVIA:

This film is loosely based on a novel written by Stephen King that he penned under the pseudonym of Richard Bachman. He wrote the story in 72 hours.
