Tagline: A game nobody survives. But Schwarzenegger has yet to play.
The Running Man is a premonition of two things. First, it is about a reality show, long before reality shows were a fad. The movie is all about a game show called The Running Man where convicts get a chance to regain their freedom if they outwit their pursuing killers in the TV show. That may sound barbaric enough but this is how Stephen King pictures the futuristic society as it is in his book which is the adapted basis of the movie. The other premonition the movie has pointed out to us? There was a line in which star Arnold Schwarzenegger delivered in the movie and it went like this – “I’m not into politics. I’m into survival.†Look at where he is now.
TRIVIA:
This film is loosely based on a novel written by Stephen King that he penned under the pseudonym of Richard Bachman. He wrote the story in 72 hours.
The Green Mile is excruciatingly more than three hours long. It is intentionally made that way by the director not to bore us but so we can relate how excruciatingly long the characters are in walking through the green mile. The Green Mile mentioned in the movie is actually the path where a death row inmate must walk from his cell to the execution chamber (which is colored green.) It also represents “the long green mile of life†that Tom Hanks’s character must undergo as a punishment for executing a wrongly convicted man. (Tom Hanks’s character is already 104 years old in the last scenes of the movie; he has witnessed the deaths of so many loved ones and has longed wishing for his own to come.)
Hearts in Atlantisis one of the more popular drama-driven movies penned by Stephen King. As we all know, Stephen is a master of the horror genre, thanks to a gory childhood experience when he witnessed his best friend sucked by a train. But not everybody knows that Stephen King is also a master of drama vehicles like this one. One thing I love in Stephen King movies is that they are all starred by very capable actors. In this instance, it is starred by the legendary Sir Anthony Hopkins. This is actually a coming-of-age movie about a boy who will encounter life’s greatest challenges for the first time with the aid of Anthony Hopkins’s character. It does have a horror connotation to it since the boy will experience sad instances at the ending of the movie. It’s called Hearts in Atlantis for Anthony Hopkins’s character has the delusion that his neighborhood is utopian.
The Langoliers follows the story of passengers who succumb to nothingness in mid-flight. Sure, we literally see nothing when you’re 37,000 feet up in the air but in this made-for-TV movie, passengers of the plane discovered that they’re actually traveling in oblivion. In this Stephen King thriller starring a very capable David Morse, the passengers on the plane discovered that they were left behind by time. They landed at an airport (in this case, Bangor International in Maine , in ode to Stephen King’s hometown) to discuss among themselves on how to address their situation. While discussing, time-driven creatures called the langoliers literally ate everything in their path, including the airport pavement. In the nick of time, the plane crew and passengers discovered a way to squirm themselves out of the time black hole.
This movie is a departure from the kind of Adam Sandler that we usually see i.e. being a lone father, or pathetic lover, or someone locked up for a very obscure offense. We see an Adam Sandler here in his usual raw comedic self. Here, he plays one bored middle-class family man who wants to skip through the daily sufferings of life and accidentally discovers a so-called universal remote that can make him fast-forward or rewind his life whenever and wherever he wants to, among other things. There was one hilarious scene in this movie when he clicked the remote control of life into slow-mo while a woman with considerable cleavage passes by.
Â
I must admit, even if this universal remote thingy is far from happening in real life, I can truly say that this movie makes so much sense, and that there is a very valuable lesson towards the end. You will realize what really matters most in life. It’s definitely a good watch, I’d rate it a 10.
The Wedding Singeris one memorable movie by Adam Sandler because of that immortal acapella song I Wanna Grow Old With You which has since become the anthem of lovers all around the world. The irony is that the song is not a cut from any album intended to be incorporated in a movie; it is one of those songs culled from a movie which becomes cult hits. Adam is so sweet in the scene where he sings the song, he asks the stewardess in a plane to lend her the PA system so he can sing the song to his girlfriend passenger (who is played by romance veteran Drew Barrymore.) Just a note though, I think Sandler sounded too good in this movie that this singing voice may not be purely his. But who cares?
Of all the cheesy movies Adam Sandler has done, this probably tops the list of “most memorableâ€. oohhhh Words are not enough Here, have a glimpse of the romantic (tear-jerker for hopeless romantics) airplane scene:
The Longest Yardwas one of the heartfelt movies that I’ve seen starring Adam Sandler. Adam here is not a slapstick or a romantic comedian, he’s more of like Michael Scofield in Prison Break who extends a helping hand even though he’s confined. Adam Sandler here plays a football player who’s jailed for drunk driving. The reason for being in jail is funny enough but the bulk of the movie is appreciating how a group of inmates rally together as a football team in defeating the prison guards’ team. Also features a very convincing dramatic performance by otherwise ludicrous rapper Nelly. Also features William Ficthner in an equally convincing role as a ruthless guard.
Shot in the beautiful island of Hawaii, 50 First Datesis another one of Adam Sandler’s romantic offerings. It has also become popular because of its reggae theme song Hold Me Nowperformed by Wayne Wonder. In this movie, Adam Sandler finely explores both worlds of slapstick comedy and romance. Why slapstick comedy? Simply because the plot is ridiculous enough, there has to be something to save it. Adam Sandler’s girlfriend in the movie (played by Drew Barrymore) suffers from short term memory loss every time she wakes up. Yes folks, that’s every single day that she wakes up. That’s what makes all the movie scenes hilarious because Henry Roth(Adam Sandler) has to court Lucy Whitmore(Drew Barrymore) every morning after. But don’t worry, the short term memory loss portrayed in the movie doesn’t exist in real life medical conditions or does it?) hmmmm…. Still, this movie will make every girl on the planet crush and crumble (not literally though). The plot may be silly, but in an imaginary world, this can be viable and super romantic. Imagine a guy wooing a girl everyday of his life? Even I would want to be that girl.

Adam Sandlerhere takes care of a kid to impress his girlfriend. This would have been one ideal movie for people to view and learn some lessons except it is not. Invectives hurled in this movie border an PG 13 rating and Adam Sandler teaches his adopted kid lots of mischievousness that I pity the kid because I’m pretty sure he will really wind up incarcerated someday. For example, Adam Sandler shows to his adopted kid angrily throwing fries of a customer at a McDonald’s when the joint didn’t serve them breakfast. He also urges his adopted kid to pee at the restaurant’s side door. That certainly is not comedy to me, not even a slapstick one. Regardless of how this movie is, there were still a few touching scenes between Sonny Koufax (Sandler) and the kid. It was still funny sometimes, and proved to be entertaining.

To have scenes of John McClane (Willis) displaying his antics can be called boring. But to see a movie trailer blowing up the Capitol Hill and John McClane comes rushing in to save the day will make any die hard action fan desire to see this movie. Die Hard 4.0 is one of this year’s blockbusters whose release date is pushed up to June 29 to prevent direct competition with Transformers. The aging and forever balding Bruce Willis reprises his role as John McClane who is no longer a local cop but a big-time federal Homeland Security employee this time. Here, he battles net hackers (the moniker sequel title) who compromise the security of the whole US federal system. This movie will surely blow your mind.
